川崎の匠の技と、地域の記憶を組み合わせた記念品開発
川崎市制100周年を記念する「かわさきマイスタープロジェクト」の一環として、「かわさきマイスタースツール」の企画・デザインを担当しました。
本プロジェクトでは、川崎市が認定する「かわさきマイスター」の高度な加工技術を掛け合わせ、単なる展示品ではなく、日常の中で長く使い続けられる新たな地域プロダクトを目指しました。

Commemorative Product Development Combining Kawasaki’s Master Craftsmanship with Local Heritage
As part of the Kawasaki Meister Project, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Kawasaki City, we planned and designed the Kawasaki Meister Stool.
The project brings together the advanced manufacturing skills of the Kawasaki Meisters, master craftspeople officially recognized by the city. Rather than creating a purely commemorative display piece, we aimed to develop a new locally rooted product designed to be used and appreciated in everyday life for many years.

【デザイン】
多くの人が興味を持ち、マイスターにしか出来ない造形、川崎らしさの表現を目指しました。
シンプルで実際の使い心地も良く、学校や公共施設や個人での利用を想定し、今後も生産可能なカタチにしています。
またオーダーにより高さを調整した制作が可能です。

Many people were interested in it, and we aimed to create a design that only a master could create and express the uniqueness of Kawasaki.
It is simple and comfortable to use, and is intended for use in schools, public facilities, and individuals, and is designed to be able to be produced in the future.
In addition, it is possible to make the height adjusted according to the order.
本体には、金属板を立体的に成形する「へら絞り」の技術を採用。滑らかな曲面によって、周囲の風景や光を柔らかく映し込む、存在感のあるフォルムに仕上げています。座面には木工家具製作の技術を生かし、小学校で役目を終えた学習机や、富士山麓で育った木材などを活用しました。
異なる木材の小口を見せる寄木加工によって、多様性を感じさせる表情と、身体に沿う柔らかな座り心地を両立しています。100周年仕様では、コロナ禍で使用されたアクリルパーティションも再活用し、LEDの光による記念性を加えました。
The main body employs metal spinning, a technique that forms sheet metal into three-dimensional shapes. Its smooth curves softly reflect the surrounding scenery and light, creating a form with a distinctive presence. The seat incorporates fine woodworking and furniture-making skills, using materials such as desks retired from local elementary schools and timber grown at the foot of Mount Fuji.
By exposing the end grain of different woods through a laminated wood construction, the seat achieves both a richly varied appearance and a gently contoured surface that conforms comfortably to the body. For the special 100th-anniversary edition, acrylic partitions used during the COVID-19 pandemic were also repurposed, with LED illumination adding a commemorative quality.

This design brings together local craftsmanship, the upcycling of discarded materials, everyday usability, and a distinctly Kawasaki story within a single product.
